Carol Chaney, CPM, Director of Property Management
I’m a native of… Indiana
Years at Sturges Property Group: Just hit 24!
I got into commercial real estate… about 24 years ago. I had previously worked in residential development and residential management. I then had a 13.5-year stint in selling aerial lifts and digger derricks, (I know, a bit of a detour in my career.) I started with Sturges Griffin Trent in 1995.
Funny story is that I had gotten my real estate license many years before coming to Sturges, and at that time my instructor was Gary Trent--the Trent of Sturges Griffin Trent! We never crossed paths after that class until I became an employee of SGT (the precursor to Sturges Property Group).
My most memorable property issue was… There are so many it’s hard to choose… but I would say when a restaurant in one of my shopping centers caught on fire. That was the first and, (knock on wood), last fire I have had to experience. One is enough.
My primary hobby is… working with children. Especially mentoring young girls.
Favorite food: Filet Mignon
Dog or cat? We lost our dog a few years ago… He can’t be replaced.
What I do to unwind: I like to play solitaire on my computer. I like to think it helps my mind to stay young! LOL
The secret to my success is… I would like to think that my personality lends itself to success. But also, integrity, customer service skills, and being detailed and a hard worker. Most importantly my faith in God.
The person I would most want to be trapped in an elevator with, living or dead: My grandfather. I never knew him as he died when I was a baby. I have always sensed that the two of us would be great friends.
In a previous life before commercial real estate, I… worked for a company that built bucket trucks and digger derricks. I worked in sales and put together quotations for customers such as AEP, and cities in many states over the country, even in Hawaii. Alas, I did not get to visit all these places! It was a great job, and I worked with many wonderful people. It was hard to leave but, in the end, I am so glad I chose to return to real estate.
The thing I am most proud of is… my faith and the many ways in which my belief has changed me.
What’s next for me: I plan to retire in the next few years. My hope is that I can live on the beach and take morning walks with my cup of coffee with my husband by my side.
Personal quote about success in this industry: I believe this would be about success in life!
A truly wise person uses few words. A person with understanding is even tempered. (Proverbs 17:27)
