How did you come to work for Sturges Property Group?

My career started at the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority in 1990 as an Administrative Assistant. I loved working at the airport and my mentors who helped me become the person I am today; however, the growth opportunities at the airport were limited. So, I responded to a blind ad in the Journal Gazette with an employment agency for an Executive Assistant, and seven interviews later, I was offered the position working for Barry Sturges.

How has Sturges changed over the years? What's the biggest difference from when you started?

Technology is the biggest difference! Over the years, the internet, cell phones, social media, software programs, real estate platforms, and the Sturges website have all changed.

As part of the CBRE affiliation, the brokerage and marketing departments had to adhere to specific guidelines, which were regularly updated.

When I first started, marketing packages were created in Microsoft Word and sent via fax to potential tenants, buyers, and sellers. Now, Sturges operates mostly paperless, with file rooms replaced by an electronic filing system, eliminating the need to update the listing book binders. For the most part, everything is now emailed!

In your opinion, what makes Sturges stand out from other firms in town?

The family of companies, the leadership team, all the great staff who work here and love what they do, and of course, the marketing team!

What has kept you with the company for 25 years?

My time at Sturges has been driven by the growth opportunities I've experienced. Over the years, my role has evolved from being solely an Executive Assistant to Barry to supporting a sales team, and now to serving as a brokerage administrator. In this capacity, I oversee the brokerage and marketing team, hiring and training, and office supply management, while continuing to support Barry and another sales team. I handle a variety of tasks, and the variety of tasks is what makes working here great. It's never the same day twice.

What’s one thing you wish you knew when you started?

Listen more and talk less. With real estate, there are a lot of moving parts, and being able to navigate through your sales team's deals takes listening skills.

What’s one of your biggest work accomplishments?

I worked with the leadership team during the transition from CBRE | Sturges to Sturges Property Group. As one of the few employees working with Barry and Brad Sturges, I contributed to the decision-making regarding the company name, logo design, website development, new sign layout, letterhead, and marketing template designs.

Downtown Fort Wayne could use: A trendy grocery store

Bucket list travel destination: Alaska (although I’m a beach person, so that could be debatable) 

A profession you would never try: Anything medical

On the weekends, you can find me: I’m a lake girl, so you’ll find me at our lake house on Big Long Lake enjoying time with family and friends.
