Get to Know Our Team: Melissa Clack
Melissa (Missy) Clack, Lease Accountant
I've worked with Sturges Property Group for 2.5 years, Nexus Technology Partners for 3 years, and Maintenance Management for 3.5 years.
I'm a native of... Columbia City, Indiana.
What did you do before starting here? I worked at NAI Harding Dahm (now known as Bradley Company) for 23 years, starting in 1995 as an Accounts Payable Clerk. I quickly worked my way up to Accounts Receivable, then Accountant, and later became a Senior Accountant. I did AR, month-end & year-end responsibilities, monthly financials statements, verified lease information was entered correctly into the software, reviewed & processed broker commissions, payroll, etc.
How did you start working for our Sturges family of companies? Through Dan Lucas, President of Maintenance Management, and Kevin Ellis, a Sturges Property Group Broker. A position at Maintenance Management became available and Kevin let Dan know I was looking for new employment.
What’s your favorite part about working for this family of companies? The people across all of our companies and the variety of responsibilities.
Describe your normal workday. Normal? There really isn't a normal workday in accounting. A typical day is posting tenant payments, entering new leases and lease renewals, checking lease workflow status, AP invoices for Maintenance Management and Nexus Technology Partners, tracking/posting credit card receipts, etc.
You split your time between the Sturges, Nexus, and Maintenance Management offices. Tell us what that is like. Each day I set aside time to work on items for each office. I dedicate 1.5 days to the Maintenance Management office on Industrial Road to help answer phones, process POs for invoices, enter invoices, etc. It is definitely beneficial to work in both offices throughout the week.
How do you handle juggling the needs and responsibilities of working for Sturges, Nexus, and Maintenance Management? Organizing and prioritizing the responsibilities of each company and being able to multitask.
Why should someone come work for Sturges or their affiliate companies? It's a family-oriented company with a great work environment that has a great life/work balance. The people and the owners are pretty awesome, too!
